About the conference

On the occasion of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2008 Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration organised the eGovernment conference entitled "Alliance with Users". The conference took place on 11. February 2008 in Brdo, Slovenia. The purpose of the conference was to present current European activities in eGovernment field, to foster the network of experts from eGovernment and to investigate the way forward in eGovernment.

The conference title "Alliance with users" symbolises the next step of the relation between the Government and users. It is based on the idea, that up to now Government strategy was orientated towards users. In order to approach users closer and to be able to identify their needs, as well as needs of the Government, the next step is to form an alliance. Meaning that Government and users are no more on two different sides, but on the same side - in Alliance. This Alliance is creating eGovernment with joined forces.

Slovenian Presidency policy priorities in eGovernment are important segments of the Alliance, thus they were presented at the eGovernment conference. In this light, plenary sessions, as well as interactive and rolling on live presentations of cases revolved around three main policy priorities, being:

  • interoperability
  • eParticipation and eInclusion
  • reduction of administrative burden.

The conference gathered more than 300 policy makers and high-level IT experts from national public administration institutions, European insititutions, universities and industry, who are in charge of the eGovernment development.
